A sea of beautiful ginger haired people of Ireland at the Hurling Game.
We met such a lovely girl from Canada named Hannah. She was just a bright light when she arrived at our hostel in Galway, Ireland. We invited her to join us on a tour of The Cliffs of Moor and she asked us to go see a Hurling Match in a town about an hour a way called Ennis in the County of Clare.
What is Hurling? I just didn't know.
Piping in the teams....awesome.
Hurling combines the skills of baseball, hockey and lacrosse in one high speed, high scoring game.
Hurling is believed to be the world's oldest field game. Brought by the Celts when they arrived in Ireland over 2000 years ago.
Two future hurlers. These are the sticks used to play called 'hurley' or 'caman' in Irish. The ball or 'slitter' is similar to a hockey ball but with raised edges.
Two Canucks watching the winning team.....but we had to ask who we were cheering for...don't want to get beaten up for cheering for the wrong team? On the wrong side of the stadium??
The teams apparently were the two best in Ireland. Kilkenny and Clare.
We were standing on the County of Clare side.
GO CLARE!!!!
Each team is made up of 15 players.
This guy, one of the best hurlers in Ireland missed an opportunity to score. Not happy.
Hugs to his buddy the goal keeper.
The home team, Clare won by one point. 19 to 18.
What a game!
