We Need A Blast of Sun....How About Civitavecchia, Italy

I think it's time for some warm weather thoughts.  Back home everyone is experiencing one of the worse winters in years and here in Edinburgh, although not snowy, it is damp with very little sun.

LET'S HAVE SOME SUN!!

How about Italy?  One of the Ports that the Holland America Rotterdam stopped at was the small port of Civitavecchia, Italy

A beautiful, yet very busy, village on the coast of Italy about 60 miles from Rome.  We have taken the train from Rome, takes about one hour and a bit, travelling to Civitavecchia to board our cruises.
It was the midway stop on our 21 day cruise that we completed and thoroughly enjoyed on the 21st of December.  Since we didn't have such great Internet options until the UK, I skipped Civitavecchia in my blog.

Well...here it is.
Palm trees and a breezy coast line, boardwalks along the water, fun people watching and a number of cafes with spectacular views of the ocean.

The ocean, blue sky, sun, hot temperatures.....awww...I am feeling warmer already.

The market with food and clothing and almost everything else we need to make us happy.
Don't pack from Canada, just buy as you go.  Seriously, it is very inexpensive and tons of deals to be made.  Barter if you would....it is helpful to get better deals.
Enjoy the random market photos.  The huge fruit and veggies are impressive.

And the fish.....what to do with it?  How to cook it?  I haven't got a clue....but I love just checking them all out.

"Would you love me if I were just a head?"

Now that looks like my buddies the stingrays.  Do people eat those?  I guess.

Look at the size of these eggplants!  One would feed a family....really.

And the cauliflower....It looks like a shell here?

Big crates of artichokes....love those.  Again...no clue how to cook them?
But I would learn if I lived in Italy.  Oh yeah.

When we were in Europe everything was still in bloom.  The UK still has green grass,  blooming trees and some flowers but not like the Continent.

Debbie's new friend slicing up some pork.
What a cutie!

What the men do everywhere in the world.....they bond over cards, games, coffee, a smoke, or just people watch together.  These Italian men were playing cards....and loudly.

This is fun to end with.  This monumental statue, "The Kiss"  a sailor kissing a nurse, was not here on our last visit.  It has got to be about 60 feet tall.  The entire water front is under construction.  But the tourist don't care because they are all getting their pictures taken with the statue.

I feel warmer....happier....although I was already happy.  We will be all the more thankful when Spring and Summer do arrive this year.
