Coming into the Port of Cartagena, Spain. A mist along the water and these two lighthouses that guide our ship through.
Located in the south-east coast of Spain. A population of 218,000, but with a small town feeling. Founded around 227 BC. Flourished under Roman, Muslim and Arab rule.
It is a large and important naval seaport. One of the most important defensive harbours in the Mediterranean since the 16th century.
One of the most beautiful and welcoming Ports we have seen on our cruise.
This is also on our list of long stay places for wintering in Europe. Climate is fantastic and the people are entirely friendly. Loved it.
Our fellow passengers getting their bearings with a map of the city.
Dotted with many neat statues included this 'head.' Which reminds me of what I say to Debbie...."would you still love me if I was just a head?"
Often on the streets you will find these gimmicks that are money makers but are very creative to get your attention. This was impressive. No head.
I can tell him where he can get a head if he can't find his.
Everything grows BIG here. Look at the size of this tree? Can you see the little person sitting on the trunk? Hey....that's me!!!
A view of Castillo de la Cocepcion. Built in the 17th century using the Roman ruins.
Heading into the pedestrian only street. On the left is the Town Hall and the white cone comes to life at night as a very large, colourful Christmas tree.
These little characters are all over. It is not what you might think. They are costumes that the Spanish people might wear during the Holy Week. Not KKK as the store owner told me before I could even ask.
Flamenco dancing is very popular here. I bought a small ceramic dancer as a souvenir. But this is as close to a bull fight that Deb and I would ever get.
Debbie making friends.
On our way to walk along the Byzantine Rampart with sweeping views of the harbour.
The interesting and colourful flora in Spain.
