Finally, a cafe in Cartagena, Spain with strong Wifi. Eating pizza, drinking coffee and pop and hanging out....desperately trying to get my blog up to date.
The population of this city, fourth largest city in Greece, is 174,000. Founded in 824 BC. This island has been fought over by many. It was part of Venice, the Ottoman, the Minoans, and finally in 1913 was incorporated into the kingdom of Greece.
After we left the ship, we walked along the water to visit the historic Venetian Fortress of Koules. It dominates the harbour and has become the symbol of the city.
A view from the harbour, of snow capped mountain in the distance.
The Church of St. Titus. He was the first bishop of the Greek Orthodox church in Crete.
Titus accompanied Paul (the disciple) on his journeys.
In the Church, the skull of St. Titus is on display.
A school trip going into the Church of St. Titus, with their Santa hats on.
A fish market off the main pedestrian only street up from the harbour.
A passenger from the cruise ship taking in the 'fish therapy' at one of the stores. Hmmm.
This yellow box is actually a mail box in the city. We did mail our postcards by popping them in here?? Hopefully they get home.
