A lovely day trip to the famous Trefriw Woollen Mills. A half hour from Conwy by bus and we have arrived. A wee bit too early for the shop to open so we stroll around and peek at this quiet little village.
I am warmly greeted by Sparkie on the left and Ky on the right. Aren't they gorgeous. I believe they are the Mayor and Tourist Information fellow of Trefriw.
Trefriw is a sleepy village lying on the edge of the Snowdonia National Park in Northern Wales. It attracts a lot of people for its many hiking trails that begin here.
The other big attraction is the Trefriw Woollen Mill which produces traditional Welsh bedspreads, blankets and tweeds. They also make incredible Welsh tapestries.
Their own hydro-electric turbine generates electricity to run the mill from the falls they are built on.
Welsh bedspreads are woven by weavers right on site on the huge Dobcross looms. They have been made here for over 100 years.
The tapestry are completely reversible.
Traditionally given as wedding gifts, they will last a life time.
The yarn I purchased is pure new wool, spun and dyed here at Trefriw.
The tweed here is used for garments. Either the herringbone or houndstooth designs. Again all the wool used for this beautiful tweed is processed right in Trefriw at this Mill.
Many, many bedspreads to chose from. Everything in the store can be purchased online. I didn't have room to purchase more than 5 hanks of gorgeous purple yarn.....but I will be looking to order from home.
Daffodils in Trefriw....just saying.
