A Brave New World for A&D Part 1

"Our happiest moments as tourists always seem to come when we stumble upon one thing while in pursuit of something else."- Lawrence Block

This quote is absolutely perfect for our day today.  After we purchased our train tickets to Vienna, we planned to find the 'Karoly Lookout Tower'.  It didn't appear to be very far from the train station and it was a great day to combine the two in-one trip into the city.

Well...we couldn't find it. How can you lose a tower that is 23 meters high?  It started to drizzle rain and we felt we may be wasting our time continuing when it was misty to begin with.  What could we see from the tower on a day like today?
That's when we made a left and just got lost, on purpose.

.....and this is what we saw.....

Following our hearts.....because we didn't have our map.....we let the streets call us.

Awww....a  statue of Little Debbie and I?

Wandering a little farther was a neat park area that was shaped in a triangle.  The grass is so green here.

This statue greets visitors to the park above.  Translation really doesn't make sense to me, thus we will just admire this distinguished knight.

From the park, we circled around a gas station and headed up the hill.
Go Debbie Go.
The view of the city with the heavy foggy mist over it.

Ok...I've been working too many years in hospital, because this very old building 'tower' is an odd shape to me?
Forgive me if it is a spiritual house?
We cut through the huge yard on the side of this building and came upon very old homes....more of the original city....built up high for protection.

A grocery store that has romanesque pillars decorating the door?

Heading down hill now, a very official building, appears to be in the middle of no where?
The building has a sign on it....
"Torvenykezesi Epulet"
Which when translated means
"Jurisdictions Building"

Many people were heading in here for lunch....the menu is entirely in Hungarian?  With the spirit of love, we wanted to know what we were eating today.
Come on Debbie......

Following that street, we find ourselves on the main street of Sopron, near our favourite cafe, but coming up from the back streets so it appears to us?

Not enough adventure for Debbie....she says "let's follow the wall to have lunch in the Old city."  We peer out here and don't see an exit, just a lovely quiet sanitary off the main street.
A lovely women with her little dog, Toto (just kidding) show up behind us and in perfect Hungarian explain (?) to us that we can follow this way to the Old city?  Did God send her, or could she see that we were pondering our options?

What could happen?
Onward we go across this sanctuary.......towards the stairs at the far end near the white building.

Up the stairs, through this 'room' and out the iron gate?

Keep following the 'yellow brick road' Debbie.  Through the tunnel.

I see the light at the end of the tunnel.....lol.

And here we are.....just like she said....or didn't say.....
on a street we recognized in the Old city!

And our journey continues......
