Our last day in Salzburg

"When one door of happiness closes, another opens, but often we look so long at the closed door that we do not see the one that has been opened for us."-Helen Keller

Simply said, we loved Salzburg.  It was easy to get around.  The people were friendly.  Beautiful views were all around.  Old buildings, sweet cafe, and of course apple strudel.

Our plan was easy.  Destination: the Hohensalzburg Fortress which overlooks the city.
This is a great segway to introduce a new segment to my blog that you will see occasionally.  It is called "Little Debbie's Corner."  She will follow with a post on the Fortress as this is what she loves to visit;  fortresses, castles, old jails.  Look for these in the next few months.

Spending the better part of Friday wandering and enjoying the peacefulness of the Fortress, you will find these pictures informal and unstaged.

Serenity along the Salzach river banks.

Our trip up to the top via the funnicular.

The view of the city from our cafe at the top.

The view from the back of the Fortress into the outskirts of Salzburg.  The pictures of the mountains can not capture the sheer wow factor.  The alps are a must to see.

"The hills are alive with the sound of music."
Makes me want to dance.

Lunch in the Fortress 'eating house.'  Felt like we were transported 500 years.  The platter for two was HUGE!

One word, unbelievable.

Deb has had this smile on her face since we arrived in Europe.  Priceless.

I loved this shot.  Deb's view of the Old city of Salzburg below.

Just a wee peek of one of the Fortress towers.

A quiet moment of contemplation.
A zoomed in shot of the famous Glockenspiel bell tower with 35 seventeenth century bells that chime and play tunes everyday at specific times.
You will know you have arrived in Salzburg, when you visit, all you need to do is follow the beautiful sounding bells.......

Good bye Salzburg, Hello Sopron, Hungary.
