Living in Sopron

"The world is a book and those who do not travel read only one page."- St. Augustine

No offense intended to anyone by this quote.  I was a little fearful of coming to Hungary.  Definitely the language challenges but it was more than that.  It felt very 'foreign' to me.  This is the farthest in eastern europe that we have been.  I am aware that this country has only been free from communism for 24 years.  I didn't know what to expect.
I have to say that I am pleasantly surprised by how welcoming and easy it is to discover this city.  There are very few tourist here.  Post cards, pins and country badges are almost non-existence.  Having said that, we are enjoying just living here.

The views on our walk into the city.  First picture is a zoomed in shot.  The second is actually how far it looked when we headed out!

Our home away from home for two weeks.  Sopron's RCI timeshare resort, The Solar Club Hotel.  We now have an full apartment, thus we have unpacked and are relaxing a bit before we start travelling again.
The resort is located at the top of a hill, about 2.5km from the city centre.

This is the menu of the specials available for dinner the first night we arrived.  Trusting the owner who served us, we went with what he recommended.....even though his english is comparable to my hungarian.

Below is the way they serve carbonated water.  Way too much fun.  Practicing by bartending skills.

At his suggestion, we added a shot of apple juice to the carbonated water.  Delicious.

Surprise....the dinner special was roasted leg of goose (liba in hungarian), mashed potatoes and cabbage.  Very tasty indeed.

Demonstration of how to use the oven.  First turn on the gas, at the wall, from the gas line?  OMG.  Then the burner with a match.  I can barely watch.  The BBQ is scary enough to me, let alone this stove.  Deb is a star.  She cooked a pasta dinner for us last night....but did burn her finger lighting the element.

Happy girl..... returning from a day in the city.  A walk up hill, on the way home.  Good job.
