A wee village called Hallstatt, Austria

"Travel is the only thing you buy that makes you richer."

Hallstatt is a gem accessible either by road through a mountain tunnel or via boat in Austria's lake district.  About an hour outside of Salzburg.  The population is decreasing.....so Deb and I want to move in now.
The town is on the very edge of a lake bullied by mountains.  It is the home of swans. A favourite of Emporer Franz Josef and Empress Sisi.  The locals knew this and made it so she could see them since 1860's.

One of the few stores open when we arrived.  It felt like we had the town all to ourselves.

Sometimes it appeared, by the height of the doors, that little people live here.

Feeding time for the swans by a local resident.

A cafe terrace with a mesmerizing view of the mountains.

You can see the two little tunnel openings that were built straight through the mountain to allow for more accessibility to Hallstatt.

Austrian pastries for the road.....yummy!

Mallord ducks making friends or fussing in the water?  Hmmmm.

We think a baby swan?  Not sure but sooooo cute.

No idea what kind of bird this is?  But quite a dramatic coloring on his face.

I love to take pictures of the locals going about their daily business amongst the tourist.  I thought this couple was adorable walking slowly out for a wee stroll.  Seemingly oblivious to the beautiful which is theirs to enjoy each day.
