"The life you have led doesn't need to be the only life you have."- Anne Quindlen
Two churches that we visited in Salzburg were quite exceptional.
St. Peter's Church with the beautiful Madonna and Child statue. Walking in silence through the church feeling the peacefulness that comes with the quiet contemplation of all who enter a spiritual building. Next door to this church is the cemetary of the same name. Each grave site is a 'sight' to behold. Thoughtfully and lovingly attended to. In Austria, gravesites are rented. Rent bills are sent out every 10 years. If no one pays them, your tombstone is removed?
An interesting fact is that the gated area of the cemetary was the inspiration for the scene of the Von Trapp family hiding in the cemetary from the Nazis in the movie 'The Sound of Music.'
The Salzburg Cathedral was the second church. 5000 people filled this church when Pope John Paul II visited in 1998. Mozart was actually baptised here as well as played the church organ for 2 years. Built in 774, then rebuilt in 1628 followed by the recontruction in 1959 as a result of the damage of a WWII bomb.
